What year did the business start?

The service and fitment side of the business was established in the early 1980's.  It became Towbars Australia in 2010 and has since sold it to national distributors Mercury Australia.

How did the idea for DIY towbar kits come about?

Offering DIY towing solutions was in response to our customer enquiries and feedback.  We were constantly told by people living in remote areas they were offered limited product ranges by their local automotive accessory and fitment centres, given minimal advice and paid premium prices for their towing solutions.  We knew we could offer them something better.

What products did you start off with and what new products do you have now?

From local supply and fitment of towbars and undercar products and accessories we initially expanded our sales of towbar kits through Ebay.  We offered 10 DIY towbar kits to suit the most popular vehicles at the time.  Listings and sales grew from there.  Our customers were screaming out for alternatives when purchasing towing solutions.  We listened to their needs, looked for solutions and developed a strategy to deliver them.

Why an online store?

An online presence was the best solution to provide the reach needed to be able to help and provide service to prople living in remote areas as well as the entire Australian market.  www.towbarsaustralia.com.au was created and now proudly lists complete DIY towbar kits for over 1,100 Australian and European vehicles and has to date sold towbar kits nationally to thousands of customers living from Humpty Do to Kangaroo Island and internationally to Singapore, Thailand and the UK.
